Recess for Adults

For the sake of everyone's sanity and health, we've finally decided that the kiddos are ready for a bedtime. So, every night, around 9:30 (we're late night people, what can we say?) we pick our little ones up, kiss them goodnight and put them to bed. As you can imagine, the instant we lay them down in their cribs the crying begins. We are not bothered by this anymore. In fact, our exit has become quite celebratory. It can really only be compared to the delight of recess as a child. The moment we lay them down, we nearly run out of the room in excitement. Joey jumps down the stairs in the delight, I often sing silly little made up songs about being free, high fives are given, butts may be shaken, you name it! We LOVE bedtime! Now, if we could only get Carson and Keira to agree!

"We LOVE bedtime!" Laughoutloud!
I love bedtime, too. Bedtime at our house is around 10:00. (We are late night people, too.) Some days, by about 9:30, I say to Shirley, "I'm done being a mommy now." Usually, she's ok with it. :)

Bedtime is fantastic! I started putting Derek to bed at 8 when he was 4 months old! A routine before bed may help cut down on the crying. (We did bath, bottle in the dark in a rocking chair, then bed) Even the other night I told Nathan, "This is great! It's like I'm done being a Mommy for the day and I can just be a wife now!"

They will get used to it! Actually, we started at 10 pm as bedtime about three months ago and now Ben and Norah have given us cues that bedtime is 8 pm. They sleep until 7 or 8 am the next day. We have a nightly routine that has helped a lot. It's glorious and we do the same celebration every night! Congratulation and welcome to the wonderful world of bedtimes.
