Trouble!

About a month ago I had one of those days where it was just one thing after another, especially with Carson. By the end of the day I had quite the list of what had gone on....

For starters, both kids had colds again, so between the drooling and runny noses they were quite slimy. It was lovely I assure you, as was their constant fussing. I refer to them as "the snot monsters" when they get this way. :)

The kids had woke up earlier that day, so when it was time for our morning nap I was quite excited, as I needed a few extra zzz's myself, so I put the kids down and went to bed, hoping for a good nap. Just as I got into the good deep sleep Carson woke up. A half hour nap, really?! Oh well, I took him out of his crib and brought him to bed with me hoping that he would just relax - HA! That was wishful thinking, but I had to give it a try. I then set him on the floor to roam around the room while I listened to him play. Well, at some point during my listening to him, I must have dozed for a minute because the next noise I heard was splashing! My little water loving climber thought that the toilet would be a fantastic place to play! I immediately ran over and picked him up, while thinking, "ew, ew, ew! what kind of mom am I anyway?!" There was plenty of water on the floor, as well as some soggy toilet paper that was previously in the toilet from wiping the snot monsters. I wondered if he had eaten any of that, or if he had sucked on the seat, etc. Thankfully, I have no way of knowing for sure and I'd rather keep it that way!

Next up...lunch time. This was going fine, so when he was finished his solid foods I gave him a sippy cup with some formula. This wasn't his usual sippy cup, but it is an easy one to use at the moment, so I assumed there wouldn't be any issues. There weren't any issues until he chucked it over the side of his high chair and the cup went into three pieces and the milk went all over the floor, chair legs and table legs. I just laughed and thought, well, at least I haven't mopped that section of the floor yet today!

After lunch we headed for the tub. As previously mentioned, Carson loves water! He went nuts in there; splashing as hard and as fast as he could in between trying to swim up the back wall and stand up using the side of the tub. We're working on getting him to stay seated in the tub, as I don't want an unnecessary trip to the ER for stitches on his head! As you can imagine, this is a constant battle, so when we were done washing he was the first to get out. Once he was dry and diapered I let him roam the bathroom while I did the same for Keira. While getting Keira ready, Carson decided he wasn't done with the tub. He pulled himself up on the side of the tub and started reaching in, soon he only had one leg on the floor. At this point he was moved elsewhere and the shower doors were closed shut. Close call!

After their afternoon nap we were all playing (translation: mom is working like crazy to keep the crabby sick kids from fussing) downstairs and the fussing was reaching a new high. I debated taking them into the clinic, so I decided I should just call. I left the fussing babies to work it out while I went upstairs to make the call. Usually when I leave the room, they are actually much less fussy. When I finished talking to the clinic I noticed how quiet it was, you know, the kind of quiet where it is just too quiet to be good? I scurried to the top of the stairs to check on them. There were no kids to be seen, which means that they are in the kitchen or have figured out how to scale the 3 foot high gate. I went to the bottom of the stairs and saw Carson had pulled himself up to the trash can and there was a pile of nasty tissues he had pulled out onto the floor. Keira was sitting quietly in front of the fridge enjoying the festivities. Since I hadn't been noticed I quickly grabbed the camera hoping to get a few good shots. Just as I was about to snap the picture Carson starts falling backwards, while hanging onto the trash can. He is pretty good about landing on his butt, so I just watched and started taking pictures. In a matter of seconds Carson was in tears. There he was fallen, on the floor, with a decent amount of nasty trash all around him. Where is mom? Taking pictures of course! Where is Keira? Still silently watching in front of the fridge! After making sure I got a couple pictures I immediately picked him up, as well as the trash all over the floor!

As you can imagine there are a few changes to how I do things around here now. The toilet lid is always closed, the shower doors are also always closed, the trash can has a cinder block in the bottom so he can't tip it over, as well as a lock, so he can't open the lid.

Here are a few pictures from our crazy day!

This is exactly how it as our house. I can't believe they can reach in the toilet but they can! And I'm like you, I'm better off not knowing what they had their mouth on or what they put in their mouth!

Also, I'm thinking black shirts are the wrong color to wear for a mom of almost one year old twins. They really show the snot smears and drool...I'm thinking pattern shirts my hide that better! :)

I hope everyone is healthy again!

Jen, it's so true! I just assume that anything I put on will be slimed or dirtied in some way, even when they are healthy. I hate it when I'm in public by myself and I happen to notice that there is dried snot on my fleece or something. So gross! I can only imagine what people are thinking!

Everyone is healthy here, so we definitely need to get that play date back on the calendar. Next week is pretty open for us, so let me know if you guys are free. Hope you all are doing well!

Oh my goodness! This is a great snapshot of what is to come. I am only in the "breast milk in the hair" and "where did that booger come from?" stage. I can't wait for dried snot and drool...

Thanks for sharing the adventures of Carson! The pictures that go along with it are great. :)

Grandma

Oh how the memories flood in when reading a day in the life of Jamie. I didn't have twins as you well know, but I did have three in three years. Always two in diapers. This too will pass and you will have forgotten about your busy days until someone like yourself, reminds you of it. Enjoy the time you have now. Soon they will be driving your car.Love you!
